Anachronistic Essentials

Meet Our October 2011 Sponsor

Many thanks to Anachronistic Essentials for sponsoring our
October / Halloween Boxes!

I am very excited to share this interview with all of you! So, grab a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea and join us as we get to know the lovely lady behind Anachronistic Essentials a bit better!

What is your "Real Life" name?

Jacquelynn. To one ridiculous and beloved friend, "Jack-of-the-Lynn"

Anachronistic Essentials- Self

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm from the 'burbs of Houston, TX. I enjoy writing and climbing trees, though not simultaneously since I need two arms for each activity and only have two. Alas. The word "the" is absolutely evil; not because I don't use it often, but because I can't write it for "hte" life of me.

What is your favorite color?

Yes. Except bright orange, puce, or puke shades.

What are you reading right now?

A huge stack of textbooks. And Peter S. Beagle's A Private Place.

What is your favorite handmade item either purchased for yourself or received as a gift?

Oh man, I have crafty friends...I would have to say the birthday card a friend bought me, which was huge and created from those gorgeous Japanese papers. It was so well decoupaged that it took me a minute to realize it hadn't come that way. It's that, or the cute, sill armband my "clan" made me for my initiation.

What is the first thing you can remember making by hand? How and why did you make it?

Erm...either a bead bracelet or a jean pocke with "I (heart) Mom" on it with when I was three-ish. I made them because ti look fun to do so.

Why do you create?

I create because it's a fun and productive outlet, and also because I enjoy infecting the world with things I consider aesthetically pleasurable and, for the most part, functional.

What inspires you?

Is it cheating to say "everything can be a potential inspiration"? Particularly scenery, music, and conversations with friends.

What are your favorite materials?

I'm becoming very fond of wire. Crin and lace are up there, too. Also, flour. Not for crafts, but cooking. Love, love cooking.

Do you sell only online, or do you also sell in shops and/or at craft shows?

I sell at conventions off and on; most of my "selling" actually consists of freebies I put into swap packages or items I make for friends.

Any tips on selling Handmade creations online?

Make connections in communities.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?

I'm a full-time student at Rice University with a 20-hr part-time job, so that's a good chunk of my time. Friends and good food take up an equal portion of my days (averaged out). I also write -- I've been wirting drabbles with a dear friend in New York for almost a decade now which, to me, feels like forever. Oh! And I run decant circles for perfume.

Where can we find you online?

Etsy ~ Blog ~ LiveJournal
