Meet Our January 2011 Sponsor
Many thanks to Ms Formaldehyde for sponsoring our January Boxes! According to her website, "Everything you see here is hand-made from artistic passion and a love for all things TIKI, Rockabilly, Polynesian, Hawaiian and with you in mind."
What is your "Real Life" name? Kelly Formaldehyde
Tell us a bit about yourself. I live in San Diego, CA with my bf and my 12 year old son. We currently have one fat cat, Speedy. I drink a lot of coffee and craft. I also ride a 75 Honda CB750 -- she is my baby. I love doing weddings and making special items for people that want something unique.
What is your favorite color? Fire red, just like my hair. Favorite = Say Anything & Frankenstein Least favorite would be all the SAW movies.
My bride of Frankenstein necklace my friend Erin of Psychotic Reaction, made me. What is the first thing you can remember making by hand? How and why did you make it? I used to sew all my clothes when I was younger. It started from there.
I started to create out out of being heartbroken. Making molds and seeing what I can create with an idea I get in my head. I always come up with new things to create. This makes me happy.
Fimo clay, metal, fabric, paint, glitter, beads and my glue gun. :-)
Do you sell only online, or do you also sell in shops and/or at craft shows? In addition to my online sites, I do craft shows locally and try to get out at least once a month. I sell at Bats Day in the Fun Park and Tiki Oasis every year.
Any tips on selling Handmade creations online? Marketing and blogging your items online is the best way to get your items out there. Twitter is also another way to get your products to the public. Start a fan page on Facebook and do giveaways. (Editor's note: please know the laws regarding giveaways and contests before hosting one.) You are your number one fan of your creations. Talk to people and let them know what you make. Take classes to learn how to make new products. Also, use YouTube to do a show about your product line.
I have a 12 year old son who is currently cancer free 3 months. He has had 2 brain tumors in the past 14 months. He is partially blind, and we are dealing with making life normal again. Currently, I am unemployed, and I do MsFormaldehyde creations daily.
Where can we find you online? Website ~ Etsy Shop ~ Artfire Shop ~ Infectious Threads Also: Blog, Twitter, & Facebook
